Ceramicist and illustrator Celia Wood has created a series of one-of-a-kind portrait vases for the National Portrait Gallery in London. The Edinburgh-based artist uses the slab pottery technique to create flat, geometrically shaped sides on which she paints faces. Some are inspired by friends of Wood, while others are based on figures from the museum’s own collection, such as the miniature portraits of Tudor kings and queens.
